Highlights and tour details

The GTA enters the southern part of the Piedmont Region between Val Pellice and Valle Po (Stage 50) at the Monviso massif. It is possible to go around the mountain symbol of Piedmont in different ways and then descend into Valle Varaita. From this point on, you can choose whether to follow the main track that stays in the middle parts of the Occitan valleys or a more demanding variant at higher altitudes between Val Varaita, Maira and Stura. Having arrived in the Alpi Marittime the main track is kept at a relatively high altitude, a possible low variant is proposed to discover Val Vermenagna. The last section allows to go around the Marguareis, the highest peak of the Alpi Liguri, crossing the particular karst environments of the area and to finally descend into the Tanaro Valley to Ormea where the itinerary ends.
