Cuneo

Outdoor activities for every season.

cuneo

The geological history of the Cuneo Alps, the radial position of the valleys, the climate influenced by the proximity of the Ligurian Sea, are some of the factors that have contributed to the creation of an endless variety of environments that range from the “dolomitic” type of the Marguareis massif to the crystalline rocks of Argentera and Monviso.

From Cuneo the eye embraces the extraordinary amphitheatre of the Ligurian, Maritime and Southern Cottian Alps, stopping on Monviso which, with its altitude of 3841 m, is a great summer and winter tourist attraction.

This environment allows you to enjoy all types of outdoor activities: hiking, climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, rafting, horse riding, golf, sport fishing and winter snow sports.

The most popular outdoor activities in the Cuneo area are hiking, which ranges from family walks to more demanding hikes, to the great crossings and cycle tourism, which is divided into two areas: road and mountain biking.

The roads of Cuneo have hosted many decisive stages of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France thanks to the presence of alpine hills at high altitudes that are as fascinating from a landscape perspective as they are demanding from a physical one. The most popular routes are the great climbs to Colle Fauniera, with possible departures from Valle Stura, Valle Grana and from Valle Maira; Colle dell’Agnello in Valle Varaita that reaches 2.744 metres and the Colle di Sampeyre that connect Valle Maira to Valle Varaita.

The mountains of Cuneo are the ideal place for E-mountain bike and standard MTB enthusiasts. One of the most picturesque routes is the Alta Via del sale, a track between Italy and France that continues in Liguria and reaches the sea at Ventimiglia or Sanremo and the Altopiano della Gardetta con its unrivalled landscapes. The MTB network of trails is constantly increasing even in the protected areas of the Maritime Alps, a fascinating natural park where you can easily come across chamois and ibexes while pedalling along the ancient mule tracks.

The high altitude routes have more accessible plain or mid-mountain tracks, so you can discover the authenticity of the territory along with the numerous typical products that give life to the traditional recipes that you will find in the typical mountain refuges.

We look forward to seeing you in the Cuneo Alps for a perfectly safe outdoor holiday.
