Highlights and tour details

The Alta Via dell'Anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea is a great ring-route that goes clockwise from Andrate to Brosso along the morainic amphitheatre formed in the Quaternary period by the glacier that occupied the Dora Baltea valley, at its outlet into the Canavese plain. The glacier modelling work has left us a structure of great geomorphological interest whose excellent conservation allows us to read, just like in an open-air book, the effects of the succession of the glacial and interglacial periods in the Pleistocene era, from 1.65 million to 130 thousand years ago. Lakes nestled in the greenery, from Lake Viverone to the 5 lakes of Ivrea to Lake Candia, castles like the one of Masino, admirably managed by FAI, charming villages, woods and vineyards from which excellent wines like Erbaluce are obtained: the extraordinary landscape, historical and cultural value of the compendium embraced by the itinerary offers the opportunity to combine the pleasure of the hike with countless activities to visit and discover the territory.
