Cripta e Museo di S. Anastasio

Pictures (1)

The intervention, designed by the architect Roberto Nivolo and coordinated by the Cultural Heritage Department of Asti, with the scientific management of the Superintendence of the Artistic and Historical Heritage of Piedmont, has recovered an enchanting space that develops around the central core of the crypt and of the archaeological site rich in pre-existing features and stratifications. The museum is characterised for its dual reality of archaeological site and museum, the one and the other are closely related. The western area of the museum shows a rich stratification of archaeological evidence; the most extraordinary is the Crypt of Saint Anastasio. The oldest nucleus (11th century) presents columns and capitals dating to the Roman and Early Middle Ages, while the expansion to the east and west saw the use of purposely made columns and capitals in sandstone. The eastern part of the museum preserves the stone elements belonging to the Church of Sant’Anastasio and to civilian and religious buildings of the city. The time span represented is between the Early Middle Ages and the post-Medieval period. The Smarticket is the integrated ticket that allows access to the Crypt and Museum of Sant’Anastasio and the other five sites of Fondazione Asti Musei; the ticket, valid for the 7 days following the first validation, can be purchased at Palazzo Mazzetti. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm. Last Admission at 6 pm. Closed on Mondays.
