GTA: Stage 34 Piamprato - Ronco Canavese

da Valprato Soana a Ronco Canavese (18,90 km)
Highlights and tour details

From Piamprato, the climb starts towards Colle della Borra passing through Grange Vandilliana, Orletto and La Borra, the latter in a state of neglect. Arrived at the hill, you start to descend on the steep opposite side towards the Sanctuary of San Besso. In this area, we point out the remains of the mining activities. The route towards Campiglia was once used to descend with sledges loaded with extracted ore and the same toponym “Borra” would derive from the presence of tunnels and caves. Having passed the Sanctuary, continue to descend towards Pian dell’Azaria meeting several votive chapels. Passing beside Campiglia Soana (connected with pedestrian walkway) remaining on the left orographic side of the homonymous Torrent, we reach the hamlet of Chiesale. From Chiesale, continue on for a few meters along the provincial road and on the right take the steep mule track that leads towards the small hamlet of Andorina, now abandoned, which overhangs the main valley. Close to the hamlet, there are majestic tree specimens, including the Common Ash that has recently become a monumental tree of Piedmont. From Andorina, descend to cross the Chiapetto torrent and go up on the opposite side until the hamlet of Nivolastro. From here, descend quickly to Ronco through a lovely wood with larches and spruce first and then along the Rio.
