Highlights and tour details

From Alpe Veglia you can descend towards Varzo along this interesting variant over the Passo delle Possette. The first stretch crosses the plain of Alpe Veglia and, after crossing the Cairasca stream, it allows you to quickly reach the Groppallo Chapel, a small and simple religious building built in the 16th century which served as a refuge chapel to shelter travellers surprised by bad weather during the ascent to Alpe Veglia. You then follow a stretch on the track that descends towards Ponte Campo and San Domenico to turn right at about an altitude of 1600 metres and take the path towards Passo delle Possette. Then you go along a stretch on the hillside and slightly uphill to Alpe Valle (1752 m). From here you start to climb more decisively and passing through the alpine pastures Le Balmelle and Pianezzoni you reach the pass at an altitude of 2181m. From the pass you descend towards Alpe Ciampalbino (1910 m), then to Alpe Ciusur (1860 m) and Alpe Casalavera (1550 m) reaching the hamlet of Bugliaga (1314 m). From here you take the road to Trasquera, which can be reached by passing the famous "Ponte del Diavolo" (Devil's Bridge) through the overhang of the Rio Gurva. The bridge consists of a single 34m-arch and 110 larches were used to build the scaffolding, which were burnt at the end of the work. Once you arrive at the Church of Trasquera you quickly descend towards Varzo along the historic mule track of 'Brôcc' also known as the 'path of faith', which was the main road to reach Trasquera until 1960.
