This route connects Alessandria to the hills of Tortona, birthplace of Cycling Champion Fausto Coppi. The town is quickly abandoned climbing the hills of San Zeno, where you can catch a glimpse of the Alps on a clear day. Descend to an area rich in farmhouses, perfect for the adventurous gravel cyclist (recommended for wheels with a minimum of 40 mm). At the Scrivia, continue for the second part of the petal or return to Alessandria. A long straight stretch gives the possibility to raise the average before crossing the numerous villages. Crossing the Scrivia you enter Tortona, the route winds through narrow valleys, scenic balconies and vines of Timorasso, the new star of the white wines of Piedmont. Numerous stretches on unpaved roads, including the scenic sections of the “Mitica” an historic cycle race which attracts passionate cyclists from all over Europe, as well as the beautiful asphalt climbs on the Coppi Hills.
