A long route of 320 km which links the hills of Monferrato to the Sanctuary of Oropa in the Biella area. Eight stages, all with a departure and arrival point in places well served by the railway lines, which have a Train + bike service.
The fourth stage of the itinerary is flat and has no particular difficulties. After Viguzzolo, the route winds along country roads to Castelnuovo Scrivia, whose castle is dominated by a 39-metre-high crenellated tower.
Between Sale and Alluvioni Cambiò use the beautiful tree-lined cycle path. After a busy stretch, even if with a limit of 50 km / h, we arrive at Piovera, characterized by a mighty fortress surrounded by a moat and a large park. After Piovera, follow a dirt road along the embankment of the Tanaro for 4 km, which is in fair condition, up to Castelceriolo. Staying on country roads we will reach the bridge over the Bormida and the town of Alessandria.
Visit the Cittadella di Alessandria, one of the finest examples of military architecture of the eighteenth century, one of the few still existing and best preserved in Europe.
Note: pay attention to traffic outbound from Tortona. There is an unmarked crossing of the SP 10 at Capitania. Pay close attention to the exit from Castelnuovo Scrivia and along the SP 85 for 2 km. There is an unmarked crossing of SP 211 at Sale. Busy section along the SP 82 between Crava and Piovera for 2 km. After Castelceriolo, Mountain bikers can climb the dirt road of the Bormida and follow it up to the bridge over the Bormida.
CAUTION at the entrance to Alessandria along the SP 10, it is very dangerous until the beginning of the cycle paths that lead into the city.
