Highlights and tour details

From the terminal parking of Devero climb to the church, continue straight on and half way up the plain take the unpaved road that climbs to Crampiolo. The tractor track starts behind the church and it climbs very steeply to the small dyke of Lake Devero (a section not highly suited to cycling) and then continues along the hillside going along the lake. It passes Rio della Valle first, then Rio della Satta and you reach a short but very steep paved section that climbs to the Spygher hut. From here, the track continues steep and rather unpaved, but Alp Canaleccio is reached quickly where the track continues with a moderate gradient and level sections in the so-called Marmot Valley. Having reached the bottom of the valley you can catch a glimpse of the Lake of Pianboglio. Here the track starts to climb again steeply and with several tight hairpin bends. With a last hillside section, you finally reach Alp Forno in a breathtaking scenario for the size of its pastures. For the full itinerary, follow the tractor track that travels the mountain pasture: we are in the production zone of Bettelmatt cheese.

Several sections are very steep and difficult to pedal (also for the rather disconnected surface of the track), like the climb from Crampiolo to the Dyke, the climb from Spigher to Canaleccio and the section with hairpin bends before Alp Forno. It is still definitely worth it: the scenery is fantastic!

From Alp Forno to Alp della Satta follow a wide almost level path. Be careful from Alp della Satta to Alp della Valle: the path is narrow, hillside and rather exposed. From the bridge over Rio della Valle it is necessary to climb briefly (section cannot be cycled), then on flat pastures cycle as far as Corte Corbernas. From here, there is a short uphill section and then you descend to Alp Sangiatto where you reach the alpine track which takes to Crampiolo and then to Devero.

The route is challenging overall, but it is one of the most beautiful tours of Ossola: the scenery will make all your efforts worthwhile.

Some of the sections are very steep and difficult to pedal (also because of the rather uneven surface of the track). Be careful from Alp Della Satta to Alp della Valle: the path is narrow and rather exposed hillside.
