From the ancient Casale, in the heart of Monferrato, we start our discovery of the plains leading to Valenza, crossing poplar groves and rice fields and going along the River Po. Once at the majestic Castle of Pomaro you reach the city of gold leading up to Monte Valenza.
Points of interest
Depart from Casale Monferrato railway station where you will find Piazza Mazzini, the Synagogue, the Duomo, the Civic Tower, the Theater and the Castle.
Go along the Po and follow the provincial road to Frassineto amongst poplar trees and rice fields and head in the direction of Ticineto. Having twice crossed the Torrente Rotaldo you reach Valmacca where you can admire the Town Hall, an ancient medieval building. From Valmacca continuein the direction of Rivalba and then onto Bozzole; heading towards the main road you can admire the Castello di Pomaro which dominates the adjacent hill. A short but steep uphill climb leads to Monte Valenza where you can stop and admire the panorama towards the Po. A visit to the goldsmith's city allows one to discover the “old village” and the beautiful panorama of the Po from the balcony of Viale Padova. After taking a look at the precious jewelry shop windows, you can return to Casale Monferrato by train or by taking another cycle route.
Leaving Valenza take the provincial road to S.Salvatore, shortly after passing the borough of Valparolo turn right onto a country road that will take you to Fosseto where you can visit the gardens of Villa Genova. Turning to Villabella di Valenza, head for Giarole and then go on to Occimiano. After passing over the highway take the dirt road to the left which leads to the main road of the Lanza canal, which after 10-kilometer of dirt road brings us back to Casale Monferrato.
